Ingredients Breakdown:
- Organic Maltodextrin (From Tapioca): A high-glycemic index (GI) complex carbohydrate, ideal for providing fast-acting, long-lasting energy during exercise and for replenishing the body’s energy (glycogen) stores after exercise.
- Organic Pea Protein: Considered the least allergenic of all protein sources, organic pea protein is also regarded as arguably the easiest plant protein to digest. Organic pea protein contains an excellent amino acid profile—it’s a rich source of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine and is gluten-free and lactose-free.
- L-Glutamine: The most abundant amino acid in the muscles, L-glutamine plays a significant role in the glycogen synthesis process, and helps repair and rebuild muscle tissue. It has also been shown to help raise bodily levels of glutathione, the most important antioxidant for immune system health. Glutamine also contributes to growth hormone release and digestive health.
- Erythritol: A natural sweetener, which, like xylitol, is classified as a polyol. Erythritol, unlike xylitol and other polyols, contains no calories. It is also non-glycemic and considered suitable for people with diabetes because it does not raise plasma glucose or insulin levels. Like xylitol, erythritol also promotes oral health, as it does not ferment and support the acid-producing bacteria that cause tooth decay.
- Full-spectrum Electrolyte Profile: The complete profile of sodium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, and potassium helps replenish depleted mineral stores:
-
Stevia: This is the extract (steviosides) from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana, a plant native to subtropical and tropical Central and South America. Stevia is non-caloric, and does not affect blood sugar levels. Like xylitol, stevia does not support acid-producing bacteria responsible for tooth decay.
-
L-Carnosine: One of the most versatile and beneficial nutrients available. It buffers lactic acid during exercise and offers antioxidant support.
-
Manganese: This trace mineral plays an important role in the production of superoxide dismutase (SOD), a powerful antioxidant.
-
Chromium Polynicotinate: This trace mineral helps regulate blood sugar and plays a vital role in energy production and the synthesis of glucose, fatty acids, and amino acids.
-
Sea Salt: Added to Chocolate Vegan Recoverite only to balance the flavor profile
FAQ
Q: Why Did The Flavour Name In Recoverite Change From Citrus To Orange-Vanilla?
A: Hammer Nutrition decided to make this switch because Orange-Vanilla more accurately describes the flavour of this particular Recoverite. Be assured, however, that neither the formula nor the taste has changed at all, just the name.
Q: Is the Vegan Recoverite kosher certified?
A: Yes, Organic Vegan Recoverite is certified kosher under the kosher supervision of Natural Food Certifiers.
Q: Is Vegan Recoverite, without xylotol, safe around pets?
A: According to this site (http://www.pethealthnetwork.com/dog-health/dog-toxins-poisons/xylitol-poisoning-dogs-a-deadly-sugar-substitue), "If your dog does get into something sugar-free, always check the ingredient list. Note that other sound-alikes like sorbitol, maltitol, and erythritol are not poisonous to dogs. Likewise, other sugar-free products such as stevia, saccharin, sucralose, aspartame, etc. are also not poisonous to dogs. If your dog gets into one of these other sound-alikes, it’s not poisonous. No need to worry, as long as you’re positive there’s no xylitol!" That said, Hammer Nutrition would encourage you to keep all supplements and fuels--actually, all products that are made for human consumption--away from where your pet can get at them.
Q: Why does Hammer Nutrition offer both a regular and vegan Recoverite? If they truly are the same, why not just use the vegan recipe across the board? Is there some sort of compromise with the vegan formulation?
A: The "regular" Recoverite formula contains whey protein isolate, a dairy-derived protein that is not vegan-friendly. Vegan Recoverite contains organic pea protein. This is an excellent vegetable protein; however, it does not have the same Biological Value (BV) as whey protein does--no protein source comes close to whey protein isolate's BV--so it is not as bioavailable. No matter which standard is used to determine protein quality and bioavailability—Biological Value (BV), Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER), Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS)—whey protein isolate comes out on top. Additionally, no other protein source contains a higher concentration of Essential Amino Acids (EAA) than whey protein isolate.Of the nearly two dozen different amino acids required by humans, nine are classified as essential because they cannot be synthesized by the body and must be derived from external food sources. Among these nine essential amino acids are the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) leucine, isoleucine, and valine. These are the primary amino acids that the body requires for a number of important applications, including muscle tissue repair post-workout. Bottom line: While there is arguably no better protein source than whey protein isolate--for the reasons mentioned above and more--the organic pea protein used in Vegan Recoverite is a superb protein source for those who follow a vegetarian/vegan diet, or for those who are unable to consume a dairy-derived protein. Considered the least allergenic of all protein sources, organic pea protein is also regarded as arguably the easiest plant protein to digest. Organic pea protein contains an excellent amino acid profile—for a plant-based protein it is a rich source of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine—and is gluten-free and lactose-free.
Q: Is Recoverite gluten free?
A: Both products, whey protein-based Recoverite and Vegan Recoverite (organic pea protein), and gluten free. Vegan Recoverite is also Certified Vegan.
Q: What's the biggest difference between the new Vegan Recoverite and the original?
A: Recoverite contains whey protein isolate, while Vegan Recoverite contains organic pea protein. Other than that, they are virtually the same
